When do the servers for the Wii U and 3DS turn off for Smash 4 Online?

October 5, 2023

Many vintage pieces of Nintendo equipment are still used to play the Smash Bros series across multiple consoles at important fighting game esports competitions. Though, with the Smash 4 Online being shut down relatively soon, a few games in the series are about to becoming a whole lot harder to play! Nintendo has made the decision to begin shutting off some of their outdated technology. The internet capabilities of the Wii U and 3DS gaming systems will expire quite soon.

Older consoles will occasionally start to lose compatibility for specific features. Frequently, this results in the closure of their retail services, but servers falling offline as a whole might make an entire game unusable. The offline content in Smash 4 for Wii U and 3DS is thankfully abundant. However, it will become more difficult to defeat players with similar rankings. LANs and offline practice will always be available, however Smash 4 Online will be discontinued as a result of this action.

In April, Smash 4 Online will shut down.

Nintendo recently stated that the online service for its two most recent console generations would be discontinued. The online services for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will both be discontinued in April 2024. After this date, no online games will be available for play. There are many well-known games included here, but fighting game fans will notice one in particular.
