Before the formal announcement, Spyro 4: Mystery Of The Dragon is released online.

September 30, 2023

The original Spyro the Dragon, which debuted on the PlayStation in the early 1990s with games like Crash Bandicoot, is one of the most cherished PlayStation classics ever.

Since then, Spyro’s popularity has only increased as it has been ported to PlayStation and other platforms for the enjoyment of more players. But it has been a while since we have had the pleasure of playing a fresh Spyro entry.

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy, which was released in 2018 and contained remastered versions of the original games that debuted on the PlayStation between 1998 and 2000, was the series’ most recent installment. But in terms of brand-new games, we’d have to go back to The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon in 2008, which was released a decade before the trilogy’s remastering.

Since we haven’t had a new Spyro game in 15 years, you can bet your bottom dollar that fans of the series are aching for one. I think it’s safe to say that the game’s release is long overdue. Thankfully, it appears that those persistent supporters might soon get their wish.
Concept art and supposed facts from a guy named Nicholas Kole, who has previously worked on titles like the aforementioned Spyro: Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, were uploaded on his personal website and posted in a thread by Redditor sleepytruffle.

According to the website, the new title will be Spyro 4: Mystery of the Dragon. Of course, there have been many Spyro games since Spyro 3: Year Of The Dragon, but the number 4 in the new title suggests a return to the fundamentals akin to Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.

Spyro and Cynder will reportedly both be playable characters, and the game will include a multiverse setting possibly influenced by Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Spyro and Cynder do not actually cross paths in the game, but their stories do appear to be intertwined despite the fact that their encounters are kept apart.

Additionally, it is said that Spyro 4 will be published on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 5, 2023, along with the publication of an announcement trailer. These rumors have obviously not yet been confirmed, so until they are, we should treat them with a grain of salt.

A Spyro 4 tease that was discovered online in April 2023 enthralled fans. The publisher Activision will hopefully put us all out of our misery soon with an official announcement that arrives in the upcoming weeks when we combine earlier rumors and the most recent ones.

Currently available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch is the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
