Jetpack Compose 1.2, Google’s toolkit for building native Android user interfaces, is now available as a beta version. The main benefits of the update include text improvements such as font indentation and downloadable fonts.

With Downloadable Fonts, app developers get new APIs for asynchronous access to Google Fonts and for identifying fallback fonts without a complex setup. Benefits include smaller APK sizes and better system health, Google says, because multiple apps can share the same font through a single provider.
