Artificial intelligence will support emergency responders in the UAE

October 4, 2023

The ability of authorities in the UAE to respond to crises and emergencies of all kinds will be improved by a “first of its kind” platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

The project was referred to as a central command solution for intelligent incident management by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA). The platform will provide real-time information sharing during incidents like fires and natural disasters using a combination of AI, machine learning, and geospatial tools like digital twin. This will enable better coordination between various humanitarian, emergency, medical, and citizen services for rapid response to incidents as well as to increase overall city resiliency and recovery.

The platform will provide emergency services with a wealth of real-time information along with collaboration and communications tools for usage during an incident using computer vision as well as other sources of city data.

The platform can also be combined with digital health records to better prepare medical services to assist specific individuals and enhance outcomes.

The platform can give pertinent parties a thorough overview of dangers and resources in a metropolitan region even when there are no ongoing incidents.

During routine operations, risk assessment for particular threats can be provided via AI analysis. Simulated scenarios can also be utilized to train services. The platform will initially incorporate emergency services solutions for the UAE, and it will later develop more sophisticated capabilities for further event and monitoring capabilities.

NCEMA has given a contract to Presight, a Big Data analytics business powered by generative AI, to create the platform. In May, the two parties worked together at the Crisis and Emergency Management Summit 2023 to improve how the UAE manages crises and emergencies using big data analytics and artificial intelligence.

“This AI-driven platform will empower the country’s emergency services with intelligent analysis, making the UAE a safer, more secure place to live,” stated Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government. To guarantee data safety and authenticity, this platform is supported by a strong data security infrastructure.

Director-General of NCEMA Ali Rashid Al Neyadi stated: “Such a platform is urgently needed not just in the UAE but all around the world. When dealing with natural disasters like those recently experienced in the region, coordination of emergency services to respond to an occurrence can be a difficult task, especially when the response involves several distinct service arms. By building an extensive, collaborative data platform that can provide the heroic first responders and their controllers with the appropriate information at the right moment, leading to higher efficiencies, the platform will assist them.
