We knew that even companies you wouldn’t really consider to be part of Big Tech would adopt technology once big companies started seeing XR — and some of the best AR/VR headsets on the market — as something that could improve not only their home entertainment style, but the way their industry works.

But to be really honest, I never thought of BMW as one of them. And the reason for that isn’t that I intended to minimize the Goliath in the automotive industry, but rather because… What else might BMW do, other perhaps letting engineers explore lifelike 3D simulations of their blueprints?

Actually, it turns out quite a bit. BMW already offers its own experiences and minigames within the Metaverse. However, the business has improved and now lets you enter virtual reality using a real BMW M4.

The goal is to utilize a $86,000 controller in conjunction with a VR headset to drive in virtual reality. Remember, this is a genuine car, not a toy or static model.

The outcome? Well, even after watching the video above that illustrates the experience, it’s challenging to understand. But from what I can see, a 3D gaming stage where you earn BMW coins takes the place of the actual track you are driving on.

The project’s goal is to make it possible for you to display any location that is seen in the trailer other than the racing stage from a video game. Which leads me to believe that the project still has a ways to go, but even so, it is very astounding that the car is tracked with such a high level of detail that it allows you to race in virtual reality while experiencing a sensation that is utterly authentic.
