Owners of Gran Turismo Sport had best crank their engines since Polyphony Digital, the game’s developer, revealed today that online support for the 2017 racing simulation will end in the first few months of 2019.

Polyphony announced the closure of Gran Turismo Sport’s online services on January 31, 2024 in a new blog post on the game’s official website. After that time, Gran Turismo Sport users won’t have access to any online features like Open Lobby, Garage Car Liveries, or Sport Mode. If you still need to complete any online-required trophies, time is running out.

Time trials, the main single-player campaign, World Circuits, and split-screen multiplayer will all still be available in offline modes.

Starting on December 1 of this year, the more than 200 in-game vehicles that you may purchase through the PlayStation Store won’t be offered for purchase anymore before online services are shut down. And you may still utilize add-ons that you bought before December 1 in-game.

Nearly six years ago, on this day, Gran Turismo Sport was made available only for the PlayStation 4. Along with Gran Turismo 7, which was published last year on PS4 and PS5, it was one of two Gran Turismo games created for Sony’s eighth-generation gaming console. A notable entry in the series is Gran Turismo Sport, which was the first to support virtual reality and the only title to do so for the original PlayStation VR. However, there was just a single VR Tour Mode available.

Gran Turismo Sport received a 7.5 out of 10 in our review, with the following comments: “GT Sport looks great, feels good, and the online racing is well done, but it’s just not as complete as its competitors.”
