Announcing an evaluation platform that combines the Talaria TWOTM Wi-Fi/BLE evaluation board from InnoPhase IoT with the STM32U5 MCU evaluation board from STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a fabless semiconductor company specializing in ultra-low power Wi-Fi IoT solutions since 2020. The board allows for the industry’s lowest-power cloud-connected, battery-powered IoT devices by seamlessly integrating ultra-low power Wi-Fi/BLE with STM32 microcontrollers. The combination has wearables, industrial IoT, medical, commercial, and smart-home automation as target applications.

The STM32U5 MCU is a new generation of 32-bit microcontroller that is designed to meet the most stringent power/performance requirements. It is based on an Arm® Cortex®-M33 core. The Cortex-M33 core of the MCU is integrated with up to 4MB of flash memory and 2.5MB of SRAM to provide the greatest performance among 32-bit MCUs while reducing power consumption by up to 90% and increasing battery life through a variety of cutting-edge power-management capabilities.

The development of ultra-low power cloud connectivity applications is possible with the InnoPhase IoT Talaria TWO Wi-Fi/BLE5 multiprotocol wireless platform without sacrificing performance. For IoT devices, the industry’s lowest Tx current of 81ma at MCS7 and DTIM-10 current of 57uA increases battery life to 10+ years. Talaria TWO offers secure over-the-air updates, Wi-Fi provisioning utilizing BLE, and seamless cloud connectivity to AWS and Microsoft Azure, making it simple to design and deploy IoT solutions. Customers may satisfy new use case requirements thanks to the InnoPhase IoT platform’s excellent integration, small size, and different antenna options.

The STM32U5 and Talaria TWO evaluation boards’ seamless connectivity enables designers to create ultra-low power sensor-to-cloud connected IoT solutions. Through ST’s I-CUBE-T2 software expansion for STM32Cube, software integration is made possible. The InnoPhase IoT Host APIs (HAPI) are used by the host application operating on the STM32U5 to interact with the application running on the Talaria TWO device. AWS IoT services are supported by the kit.

InnoPhase IoT Talaria TWO’s low-power Wi-Fi connectivity to STM32U5 enables long battery life for ultra-low-power smart applications, including wearables, personal medical devices, home automation, and industrial IoT, according to Bertrand Denis, STM32 Product Manager at STMicroelectronics. When adopting Wi-Fi cloud connectivity, our partnership with InnoPhase IoT will assist customers in meeting low-power, long battery-life requirements without losing performance.

According to Wiren Perera, president and chief operating officer of InnoPhase IoT, “Untethered, long battery life devices with direct cloud connectivity are unleashing the potential of IoT in multiple markets.” “ST’s lowest-power MCU, the STM32U5, along with our industry’s lowest-power Wi-Fi/BLE solution deliver a platform enabling rapid time-to-development and deployment utilizing ubiquitous Wi-Fi connectivity for our customers,” says the company.
