At the 2026 Singapore Airshow, India’s Air Marshal Balakrishnan Manikantan, AOC-in-C and Chief of Air Staff designate of the Indian Air Force, engaged in high-level defence talks with senior officers of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the Singapore Armed Forces. The discussions, held at the Changi Exhibition Centre on the sidelines of the biennial aerospace and defence exhibition, focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing military ties between the two nations.

During the meetings, Air Marshal Manikantan held talks with Brigadier-General Ho Kum Luen, Chief of Staff-Air Staff of the RSAF, and Brigadier-General Chan Ching Hao, Chief of Staff-Joint Staff of the Singapore Armed Forces. The delegation also interacted with India’s Sarang Helicopter Display Team, which is participating in the Airshow’s aerial demonstrations, showcasing India’s indigenous aviation capabilities.

In addition to defence dialogues, the Indian delegation took part in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Kranji War Memorial to honour the sacrifices of World War II soldiers, underscoring the broader historical and diplomatic engagement accompanying the strategic talks.

The Singapore Airshow 2026 itself has drawn a record turnout of over 1,000 companies and tens of thousands of trade visitors, highlighting the Asia-Pacific region’s growing importance in global aerospace and defence sectors. Alongside defence cooperation discussions, the event has featured launches, aerial displays, and showcases of advanced technologies in military and civilian aviation.

Experts say the Air Marshal’s participation and talks reflect a deepening defence relationship between India and Singapore, set against the backdrop of evolving regional security dynamics and rapid technological advancements in aerospace. The engagements not only promote defence collaboration but also open doors for joint training, technology sharing, and strategic partnerships in areas such as AI, unmanned systems, and advanced aviation technologies.
