Safer Internet Day 2026 celebrated at Zunheboto

Zunheboto, Nagaland, India — In observance of Safer Internet Day 2026, the Zunheboto District Administration hosted a dedicated awareness programme to promote responsible and secure internet use among students, officials and community members. The event was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall under the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) initiative.

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Bhanudas Mali delivered the opening address, urging participants to be vigilant against online risks such as cyberbullying, scams and fraudulent calls — and to educate family members about digital safety. Experts highlighted the critical importance of protecting personal information in today’s digitally connected world.

A key feature of the programme was an informative presentation by Pragati Wihangam, District Informatics Officer of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) Zunheboto, who explained common cyber threats — including phishing, hacking and identity theft — and offered practical tips to mitigate them.

The event also underscored Safer Internet Day’s global goals: to build awareness about online safety, encourage responsible use of technology, and support privacy and security for internet users of all ages. Safer Internet Day is observed worldwide each year on the second Tuesday of February — in 2026, on February 10 — under the theme “Smart tech, safe choices”, emphasizing safe and responsible use of smart technology and AI.

The Zunheboto observance brought together officials, educators and students in a community effort to promote cyber hygiene, digital literacy and safer online behaviour — reinforcing the message that a secure internet depends on informed and cautious users.
