Indicating that its intentions for a cloud gaming service may be taking shape, Netflix has released a game controller software for iOS devices on the software Store.
Subscribers can use a gamepad interface to play games on their TVs with the Netflix Game Controller app.
The Verge reports that when a user launches a game through the app, a request to connect their device appears, with the warning “Netflix Games on TV are in beta” and possible device support restrictions.
The availability of app and TV compatibility has not yet been given a specific release date.
GamesIndustry.biz contacted Netflix about the allegation, but they declined to comment.
In October of last year, Netflix declared it was “seriously exploring” launching its own cloud gaming service.
Netflix Gaming VP Mike Verdu stated that the streaming service will “approach this the same way we did with mobile, which is to start small, be humble, be smart, and then build it out.
But we believe it is a move we should make to meet subscribers on the devices they use to watch Netflix.
