The new OLED Microdisplay is primarily used in head-mounted display applications for virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). It uses downsizing techniques that SSS developed while creating camera electronic viewfinders (EVFs), as well as its proprietary pixel driving circuits, to produce 4K resolution with a 1.3-type large-size display. The microdisplay now has a new high-speed driver circuit that enables a high frame rate even at 4K resolution, resulting in smooth image quality and an improved sense of realism. Additionally, the unique pixel structure of SSS enables the achievement of outstanding brightness performance as well as a wide color gamut.
SSS will facilitate future VR/AR head-mounted display experiences that create a remarkable sense of reality immersion by offering this new microdisplay.
Feature Principal:
Thanks to the original downsizing technique and the pixel driving circuit, the image quality at 4K resolution is smooth.
Display technologies frequently exhibit fluctuations in attributes, such as brightness across individual pixels, at greater resolutions and pixel counts, which lowers the quality of the images. However, this new microdisplay uses a specially designed variation compensating circuit in addition to better production procedures and transistor arrangement. By offering uniform brightness even at 4K resolution, this design helps solve transistor characteristic differences and ensures outstanding image quality.
A 1.3-type, large-size microdisplay with this kind of high-quality performance integration enables imaging with wider viewing angles on targeted items.
High brightness and wide color gamut are possible because of the original pixel structure.
The new microdisplay eliminates the trade-off between color gamut and brightness performance that existed with existing technologies by using an innovative pixel structure that increases light-use efficiency while maintaining color gamut expansion. When paired with high-definition pixel design, this design offers not only a wide color gamut that covers up to 96% of DCI-P3*2 color space but also a high brightness level, resulting in a more immersive experience with realistic images.
Improving the qualities and capabilities needed by the target items
- In virtual environments, latency and leftover pictures can interfere with the sensation of immersion and cause the brain to feel as though something is not quite right. This microdisplay gives up to a 90 fps frame rate and reduces the image illumination time by 1/5 (20% duty drive) in comparison to an existing product, resulting in smooth, clear visuals with few residual images.
- The intended products using this microdisplay must be capable of high-level data processing in order to display in 4K resolution.
