The Reconfigurable Virtual Collective Trainer (RVCT) Air Program will receive VR/AR headsets thanks to a partnership between the U.S. Army and the Finnish XR business Varjo. The partnership seeks to give Apache, Chinook, and Blackhawk helicopter pilots mixed reality training experiences.

High-end VR for pilot training in the Army:

Varjo unveiled a “racing simulation with maximum immersion” over the past summer.

Varjo used the Varjo Aero VR headgear while working with Simcube’s simulator expertise. Varjo collaborates with Cole Engineering to customize the simulator’s software and hardware to the XR experience for the mixed reality training of US pilots.

The U.S. Army will use the Varjo XR-3 Focal Edition as its XR headset:

Pilots are reportedly able to experience a fully realistic training environment where they may interact with physical controls in real time because to its high quality and video pass-through technology.

The U.S. Army anticipates that Varjo’s technology will make pilot training more productive. According to Seppo Aaltonen, chief commercial officer of Varjo, “Mixed Reality technologies can reduce overall defense training costs, increase training flexibility, and improve adaptability to any operational environment.”

Only one of more than 70 immersive defense training programs that use Varjo’s hardware and software solutions is the U.S. Army’s RVCT program.
