Since Starbucks started experimenting with mobile payments in 2009, restaurant apps have advanced significantly. These days, ordering food via an app is commonplace. However, some chains provide awkward apps. The launch of the mobile app was one of the biggest breakthroughs to hit the restaurant business in the nearly two decades that I have been following it. Digital pioneers including Panera Bread, Starbucks, Chipotle, and Taco Bell spearheaded the movement.
