There are rumor’s that Huawei is developing a virtual reality (VR) headset to take against Apple Vision Pro. A tipster has revealed that the business plans to release the rumored high-end headset before the end of 2024. Apple’s flagship spatial computer operates on a specialized operating system called vision OS and supports virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) content. Users can interact with the device with their eyes, using finger motions, or by using a virtual keyboard.

In a post, Mochamad Farido Fanani, a member of X (previously known as Twitter), revealed information on Huawei’s purported VR headset, stating that the device will be powered by a “flagship processor” from the Chinese tech behemoth. It is advisable to approach these assertions with caution, though, as the user hasn’t demonstrated a history of consistently leaking information.

Although the specific CPU used in Huawei’s headset is unknown, Apple’s first mixed reality headset runs on two processors: an R1 chip that is specifically designed to process spatial information from sensors, microphones, and cameras, and Apple’s M2 chip for general operations.

Fanani claims that the rumored Huawei VR glasses will have an internal fan-driven heat dissipation system for thermal control, and that the device would be powered by external batteries. This seems a lot like how Apple handled their first-generation Vision Pro headset (which also requires extra batteries to operate).

According to Fanani, Huawei is not the only company working on a VR headset; Honor, a former Huawei subsidiary, is also developing a VR headset system. The informant hasn’t disclosed any information on the hardware of the gadget, though. Additionally, it has been stated that Samsung is developing the “Infinite” extended reality (XR) headgear, which could be released in the second half of 2024.
