Three well-known tech names, in that sequence. Each company works to create connections and game-changing products and services that empower entrepreneurs and provide access to smart technology, yet there are undoubtedly more similarities than differences. These businesses are leading forces in 5G, telecommunications, advanced multimedia solutions, etc. by reinventing connection and future-proofing enterprise processes.

Utilizing the new RedCap compatible software from Ericsson and MediaTek’s RedCap Testing platform, Verizon, Ericsson, and MediaTek stated that data and “Voice over New Radio” (VoNR) sessions over Verizon’s 5G network have been conducted successfully. Without using excessive technical jargon, these are the two key conclusions:

The development of lower-cost and lower-complexity NR devices, like as consumer wearables, mobile medical devices, and fitness trackers, is made possible by this new technology. Additionally, it enables enterprise IoT solutions, such as smart grids, industrial sensors, and video surveillance, to function far more effectively on Verizon’s 5G network.

A crucial implication of this? Many of the aforementioned systems and gadgets (many of which have audio features that necessitate voice connections) often transmit and receive less data than wireless routers or cellphones do. This has the advantage that smaller, lighter devices (i.e., those with longer battery lives and lesser degrees of complexity) can now be developed and used on the Verizon network. Each business also provided a price for this innovation. From Verizon’s SVP of Network and Technology, Adam Koeppe:

We now have a very complex and adaptable network that readily offers a range of capabilities needed for a number of devices thanks to the network transformation we underwent over the past few years. The development of this innovative, lightweight software, along with the technologies rolled out across our strong 5G network, will enable us to efficiently provide the finest experience for our consumers and will propel the 5G ecosystem with affordable, energy-efficient devices.

According to Graham Osborne, vice president and director of Verizon’s Customer Unit at Ericsson North America: The capacity of Ericsson RedCap as a software to support an entirely new range of use cases for both consumers and businesses is demonstrated by Verizon’s 5G standalone network’s pioneering of both data and VoNR calls on both low-bands and mid-bands. To create an ecosystem that will bring many sorts of 5G devices to market, Verizon and MediaTek must conduct this over-the-air demonstration in a real C-Band environment.

Additionally, here is a statement from Dr. HC Hwang, general manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communication Systems and Partnerships: “This productive partnership with Verizon and Ericsson represents a new step in the advancement of our 5G RedCap platform. Wearables, IoT devices, AR glasses, and other use cases are made possible by the technology without putting a strain on the current 5G networks, which must support greater performance systems and goods.

Overall, it is anticipated that this development would contribute to the expansion of the 5G ecosystem and its diverse use cases (together with more effective resource management), especially for the Internet of Things.
