The sale of the artificial intelligence software and processing power that runs it is expected to bring in more than $1 billion in income for OpenAI over the course of the next 12 months, according to a report published on Tuesday by the Information. The ChatGPT creator had already predicted $200 million in sales for this year.

According to the article, the Microsoft-backed business now brings in more than $80 million every month, as opposed to just $28 million all of last year. A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by OpenAI.

In addition to ChatGPT, it generates revenue by directly charging developers and businesses for access to its AI models via an API and through a collaboration with Microsoft, which invested over $10 billion in the business in January.
