In the realm of mobile technology, there is a new sea that has yet to be discovered and tamed: everything having to do with augmented and virtual reality gadgets. To the soon-to-arrive, with Apple’s introduction of the mind-blowing Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
Of course, we’re referring to Google and Samsung here. Earlier this year, in February at the yearly Galaxy Unpacked event, the two companies declared that they are developing a new mixed-reality headset with Qualcomm.
But when Apple revealed the Vision Pro in July, we discovered that this potentially fantastic headset will now be delayed by up to six months. Thankfully, the people at UploadVR (via xda-developers) have just given us a glimmer of light in the shape of leaked photographs that are allegedly of the triple-trouble AR/VR project.
The UploadVR website claims that the headset is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2200 SoC in addition to the four tracking cameras you can see at the front. However, considering the collaboration between Qualcomm, that might very well alter. It’s possible that the Exynos chipset is only utilized while the headgear is still in its infancy. Either that, or Samsung’s silicon is used in the final product, although that seems less likely.
Additionally, pancake lenses with support for color passthrough are believed to be used in the headset. Additionally, it’s rumored that, like the Vision Pro from Apple, it won’t need any hardware controllers and will instead rely on your hand motions.
Having said that, it’s good to know that the project is still in progress!
