Protesters stormed the business and set more than 15 cars and other property on fire; 70 people were arrested
A fire broke out in a private school area in northern Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district on Sunday morning, four days after the body of a Class XII girl was found in the hostel block of the campus. The protesters destroyed the institution and set fire to more than 15 cars and other property. The police had to blow in the air twice to disperse the protesters, and 70 people were arrested for the violence.
In the evening, Superintendent of Police C. Sylendra Babu ordered the investigation of the case to be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID). He said the school principal Ravikumar, secretary Shanthi Ravikumar and the principal were arrested for not providing adequate security measures in the hostel.
