Think & Built Bigger Faster Better

1990 Through its unique Connected Ambulance, Suwa Seriya, Sri Lanka’s national pre-hospital emergency ambulance service, is ushering in a new age in emergency healthcare.

This ground-breaking effort, powered by cutting-edge Mixed Reality and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, is destined to transform the landscape of pre-hospital care emergency medical response not just in Sri Lanka, but also, for the first time, throughout the Asian region.

Wavenet serves as its primary technology partner, utilizing Microsoft technologies to bring this improved lifesaving breakthrough to existence. Initially, the pilot project would be established and operational in Sri Lanka’s western and northern regions, Colombo and Jaffna, respectively.

The most recent technological advancement creates a fully connected platform that seamlessly connects the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Emergency Physicians at the Emergency Command and Control Centre (ECCC) with the existing Emergency Dispatch Management system and the rest of the Operations Management systems at 1990 Suwa Seriya.

This integration automates and improves the emergency healthcare ecosystem’s efficiency by digitizing critical processes, ensuring rapid response times, and providing specialized care remotely via the Microsoft HoloLens and Wavenet’s digital healthcare arm Mediwave’s Emergency Response Suite.  EMTs equipped with the latest communication equipment, IoMT, and HoloLens AR features can remotely connect with the ECCC’s Emergency Physician, monitor vital signs, and provide specialized care even before arriving at the hospital, enhancing patient care during the critical hour of medical emergencies.

Medical personnel, such as EMTs and control room operators, are trained using augmented reality simulations and technical guides that combine HoloLens smart capabilities. Furthermore, Wavenet’s digital healthcare subsidiary, Mediwave, uses a speech-to-text, AI-powered transcriber to digitize Electronic Patient Care Records (ePCR), decreasing delays in Emergency Treatment Units and minimizing human error.

1990 Suwa Seriya, the chairman of the board, stated, “Technology-led initiatives, such as these, contribute to improved expenditure management, enhanced public health indicators, attract foreign investment for the nation, create new and advanced job opportunities, and demonstrate Sri Lanka’s technological prowess, fostering economic growth and innovation.”

“With a fleet of 322 ambulances covering the entire island, 1990 Suwa Seriya achieves a world-class average response time of eleven minutes and thirty-eight seconds for medical emergencies across Sri Lanka, surpassing response times in some developed countries.” We contribute to the saving of over 1000 lives every day by responding to over 5300 calls.  We are ready to make new territory in pre-hospital care emergency management with this enhanced lifesaving technology program,” 1990 Suwa Seriya, Chief Executive Officer, Sohan de Silva added.

“We are proud to be the sole provider of pre-hospital emergency ambulance services in Sri Lanka, 1990 Suwa Seriya.” We have lifted emergency healthcare to unparalleled heights with Wavenet’s digital healthcare arm – Mediwave’s Emergency Response Suite – with years of success and ongoing innovation, working alongside the best in the healthcare business. In the digital healthcare field, we are at the crossroads of Augmented Reality (AR) and AI, and this breakthrough harnesses the power of collaborative relationships with the healthcare fraternity. Suren Pinto, Wavenet’s Chief Executive Officer, stated.

Speaking during the event, Parliamentarian Harsha de Silva, the pioneer of the free ambulance service, expressed his gratitude to the firms Wavenet and Microsoft for making this technological marvel possible.

Speaking at the event, Health Minister Ramesh Pathirana stated that he will positively reply to MP de Silva’s request to award Rs. 10,000/= Living Expense Allowance to the 1990 Suwa Seriya workers.
