The Karnataka government unveiled a draft of new regulations at the 26th Bengaluru Tech Summit, which seek to create 30,000 employments in the animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) industries over the course of the next five years. The goal of the Karnataka AVGC-XR Policy 3.0 (2022–2028) is to develop a sizable talent pool for the industry.
Together with business and academics, a skill advisory council will be established to work at imparting industry-ready skills. The establishment of business incubators catering to the industry and the creation of the AVGC-XR special economic zone are other initiatives the government plans to pursue.
“The AVGC-XR Policy, which emphasizes inclusivity and sustainability, establishes Karnataka as a hub for animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics,” stated Priyank Kharge, Minister of Information Technology & Biotechnology and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj.
The strategy seeks to encourage early-stage entrepreneurs in the industry by helping with marketing, infrastructure, and compliance costs, as well as by giving financial support through the establishment of a specific AVGC Venture Fund (KITVEN AVGC FUND). In addition, the government would subsidize the creation of animated movies, television shows, VR/AR/VFX projects, and video games. Additionally, it will relax regulations to encourage innovation in the industry.
