As part of the rush to incorporate AI into well-known apps, Uber Technologies Inc. is developing an artificial intelligence chatbot that will provide recommendations to food delivery clients and speed up the ordering process.

The Eats app’s code contained information on the Uber program, giving users a sneak preview of an unannounced feature. The chatbot will display a message when a user uses it that reads, in part, that the “AI assistant was designed to help you find relevant restaurant dishes and more,” according to language in the code that was found by developer Steve Moser and shared with Bloomberg News.

In an interview with Bloomberg Television earlier this month, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that his business was developing an AI chatbot but withheld further information on its features. According to him, Uber already matches consumers with drivers and couriers using AI.

Instacart and DoorDash Inc. are competitors of Uber Eats, which contributes approximately a third of the company’s revenue, in the race to deploy AI to enhance food delivery. Instacart is creating a chatbot based on OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology, and DoorDash has been working on a system called DashAI. The biggest US online grocery delivery service, Instacart, is preparing for an IPO, which will draw even more attention to its technology.
