Cricket scheme has gone mad: Nasser Hussain on ‘disappointing’ Ben Stokes ODI retirement
“It’s disappointing news, but it’s a reflection of where the cricket schedule is now. It’s crazy for the players,” Nasser Hussain told Sky Sports.

“Half the reasons [for his retirement] will be physical and half will be mental, and the mental in Ben’s case is that he can’t do things at 70, 80%. He just can’t be a small player, he has to do it all and he’s not ready to do it if doesn’t do it 100 percent.

“In a way, I have a lot of respect for him for making that decision because that’s what you want every cricketer in England to come in every day considering everything,” he added.

‘STRONG CRAZY SCHEME’
Stokes has played 104 ODIs for England since his debut in 2011. Stokes played 20 ODIs in the 2019 World Cup but has played just 9 since then, including 3 against India earlier this month.

“I think this is a scheme. The cricket schedule is absolutely insane at the moment. If you only play in one format – say Test matches – that’s fine. But if you are a multi-format, multi-dimensional player and even a Test Match captain like Ben Stokes who gives 100% to his work on and off the field, eventually you have to give and see. like Ben 50-over cricket, which is a real shame because he gave us and the England fans the best day in a long time in 2019, a day we will never forget in the World Cup final,” Hussain added.
