OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, made a compelling argument for the use of AI in content moderation, arguing that it may increase productivity at social media companies by reducing the time it takes to complete some of the laborious duties.

Despite the excitement surrounding generative AI, businesses like Microsoft and Alphabet, the owner of Google, have not yet been able to profit from the technology they have invested billions of dollars in with the expectation that it will have a significant influence on a variety of industries.

Microsoft-backed OpenAI claims that its most recent GPT-4 AI model can shorten the time required for content moderation from months to a few hours while ensuring more accurate classification.

Content moderation can be a difficult undertaking for social media companies like Facebook-parent Meta, which collaborates with thousands of moderators worldwide to prevent users from viewing undesirable content like child pornography and violent pictures.

Based on OpenAI, the procedure (of content regulation) “is inherently slow and can cause mental stress on human moderators.” The time it takes to create and modify content regulations is reduced with this approach from months to hours.
